Artist StatementMy sculpted photography series was born as a result of my multi-media art practice that spanned decades. In the 60’s and 70’s, I drew and also created abstract sculptures in metal, clay and plaster. |
At first I used photography to document my work. Then I began to experiment and use photography as an art form.

I began pushing the language of sculpture into my photographs. In the piece above, the bumper is printed on fabric and then stuffed. The piece below shows the incorporation of real objects into my photographs, playing with light and space.
Finding new ways to sculpt, I participated in various Earthwork and Conceptual Art events in the Bay Area, documenting the results.
I continued to find sculptural elements in my drawings as I welded aluminum and cast bronze.
By the mid 90's, I devoted myself entirely to photography. Collaborating with my best friend and fellow photographer Carol Hayden, we documented old motels in the Sonoran Desert, sometimes capturing them moments before the bulldozers arrived.
A book was published called Vacant Eden and Cibachrome prints traveled to museums and galleries.

But soon, sculpture and abstract imagery called me back. So I returned to find it in my lens. And then in my hands.
